Plan with your head, walk with your heart
-
Plan your route according to your skills and the weather - especially if you're tackling a via ferrata, an equipped route or an exposed section. Always bring a paper map: your phone might lose signal or run out of battery. A map helps you navigate, recognise trail numbers, and locate refreshment points along the way.
-
Walk slowly, enjoy the landscape and the silence.
-
Let someone you trust know your route and estimated return time. This can be vital in an emergency. It’s best not to hike alone: all trails run through natural settings and come with the inherent risks of outdoor sports.
Trust your experience, be prepared for the unexpected
-
Rely on professionals, mountain guides and hiking guides.
-
Help those in distress. In case of a real emergency, call assistance on European emergency number 112 and give clear details: your exact location, the activity involved, the number of people affected, and their condition.
-
Make sure you’re equipped with the right clothing, enough water and a few snacks. If you're heading for a via ferrata or equipped trail, prepare carefully: check your gear thoroughly before setting off.
Take care of the mountains
-
Respect the environment and those who live in it by bringing your rubbish back down to the valley.
-
Follow the marked trails and avoid those reserved for bikes. Don’t stray from the path needlessly or take shortcuts: it may harm the landscape - or put you in danger. When in doubt, turn back.
-
To protect nature’s wonders, leave everything in its place.
-
Bring your pet along, but keep it on a leash.
Every mindful step is an act of love for our mountains.
Walk with respect, live in freedom.
